Rangla Punjab
Having lived out of Punjab for most of our life and having studied in a convent school .....
trips to Punjab were a lot of fun for us, both me and my brother loved the farms and the kind hearted people.
The delicious food and the aroma floating in the air in our villages...
Early morning the Bhai Ji from the Gurudwara would start the morning prayers,(though we were heavy slogs) waking up to the sweet sound of a Pathi reading the Granth Sahib (though we did not at that time understand the meaning of the scriptures being read) followed by kirtan .......this was nothing but Heaven.

What Ails Punjab Today
Politics has never helped anyone especially in a country like ours where accountability is unheard of ....in every society there has to be a system of checks and measures....our Guru's realised this and started the Panth Khalsa(in the absence of seniors it is our religion that provides for the 'Bandish' that governs us).The Sikh Reht Maryada...
...code of conduct for a sikh has been very clearly laid down ..... very simply put ....this code is nothing but guidelines that prevent us from straying from the path our Gurus expected us to follow and prevent us mortals from going the wrong way.
Sadly enough our political leaders who were required to uphold these codes have done nothing but hold on to their dear seats and have done little for the common man in Punjab. Their lust for power and money has prevented them from putting the welfare of the common man over everything else.
What they forget is that if we are the tree with our branches going anywhere ... our roots lie in the middle class and the farming society in Punjab.

...this has led to nothing but the degradation of society ...every year it is becoming more and more difficult for the farmer to dispose of his crops and grain , we have also witnessed suicides in Punjab during the rabbi and wheat crop seasons....the poor man after working hard for six months is unable to sell his yield and therefore unable to pay the moneylenders who stand at his doorstep ready to take over whatever little land that he has.

We can look at the problem from two points ...
First we can blame the politicians and the government etc etc etc and so on....
or else we stand up today as sikhs have always done and the world has stood and witnessed it.

In short what has happned is that there has been an era of weak and selfish leadership where absolutely no guidelines or help of any form has been provided to the people. It is only when the vote banks get affected does the administration normally wakes up to face reality.
What is required is that we educate and take care of our children and make them understand what the world really is all about such that they grow up into fine young mature men and women who can shoulder the responsibility given to them well.
If we try to change the grown ups well...seems very difficult to because they can and will never listen to us....these so called grown ups have learnt to hide their evils behind a lot of talk, lectures, and also phrases like Human Rights etc and also that their age for learning is over. Let us just pray for them and leave them to what they are ....if a tree has grown leaning to one side you can never make it stand tall but if just if you had caught it when it was a young sapling you could have very easily corrected its growth.
